We shared with you back in July that we had commissioned Bristol-based natural outdoor play equipment specialist, TouchWood Play, to design an innovative and imaginative new play area made almost entirely of wood on our land at Westmead Playing Field.
We are excited to report that work to build our new park, adjacent to The Arc will be commencing this week with an anticipated build time of 4-6 weeks.
TouchWood Play mix natural, sustainable materials with inventive design skills and traditional woodcraft techniques to create playgrounds that are safe, long-lasting and special. They specialise in creating unique play experiences where children can use their imagination to have their own adventures, in a stimulating and natural setting.
The new play area has been predominantly designed to be aimed at toddlers through to 12-year-olds. It will offer a great range of activities for children and their parents/carers. The build, together with the scale of the timbers and the items included in the design, mean that playing at the park isn’t restricted to those under the age of 12.
You can see some of the play area designs below to see the many beautiful features to be enjoyed, including a Wildwood Tree House, Hollow Log, Play Hut and Sand Tower with pulley and chute. Please note these are for illustrative purposes only.

The new play area will complement The Arc’s climbing wall, skate park and café facilities, continuing our efforts to improve the land owned by our charity for the benefit of the local community.
