Awarded at the close of the 2024–25 financial year, this grant supports the continued delivery of Waste Not Want Not’s Fresh Start Scheme, helping individuals and families across Chippenham who are rebuilding their lives after experiencing crisis or hardship.
The scheme provides essential household goods – such as furniture, white goods, and kitchenware – free of charge to those referred by frontline agencies. These items enable individuals and families to settle into safe, secure housing and start to rebuild in dignified, comfortable surroundings. Many beneficiaries are families with children, and the scheme typically supports around 30 people each year, directly and indirectly.
Established in 2016, the Fresh Start Scheme is well known within the local community and is supported by a wide network of referral partners, including local authorities, housing associations, and charities such as Doorway, FearFree, and Alabaré. By offering practical help at a critical moment, the scheme aims to reduce financial pressure, prevent debt, and improve wellbeing and self-esteem. The project also helps reduce waste by diverting usable items from landfill, contributing to a more sustainable and supportive local environment.
