Lady Lansdowne kindly unveiled our beautiful new wooden owl sculpture earlier this week. Look out for him near the car park on our land at Westmead Open Space. The sculpture celebrates our new partnership with Wiltshire College and University Centre.
Ollie Adams who is a Horticulture apprentice at Lackham college created the owl. It took Ollie one day to carve the sculpture and about a week to treat it. The Owl was made from Western Red Cedar and the base from a Beech tree that fell down a year ago on the Lackham estate. Ollie used a chainsaw to carve the owl.
Ollie is part of the garden team from Lackham college. This group have started working on the land to help improve it for community use. Keep an eye out for them when you next visit for a walk. Ollie has enjoyed dog walkers stopping to show their appreciation for his work.
We are delighted to say that Ollie has agreed to create more sculptures for us. Local children will tasked with coming up with designs that Ollie will then produce. We will be shortly launching a competion with Chippenham Primary schools. During the next year look out as we create the sculpture trail through some of our woodland. Watch this space for more news on this over the next couple of weeks…
