Supporting children & young people
We understand that the cost of living is putting pressure on many families in Chippenham. Whether it’s school uniforms, trips, or enrichment activities, these costs can add up fast and create real barriers to participation and confidence in school.
That’s why we’re working with local schools to offer practical financial support – so no child misses out because of money worries.

The School Social Fund
We provide funding directly to schools so they can support pupils from low-income households. Each participating school receives an allocated amount from our School Social fund allowing them to respond quickly and flexibly to the individual needs of their students.
The funding can help cover costs such as:
- School uniform*
- Curriculum-related trips
- Extracurricular activities
Allocations are based on each school’s Free School Meal (FSM) eligibility figures. Funds are distributed in September, following the submission of a short annual report (due by the end of July) detailing how the previous school year’s allocation was spent.
We’re proud to work in partnership with schools across Chippenham and grateful for all they do to deliver this support to local families.
Who is eligible?
If your child is at one of the participating schools and you’re struggling financially, please speak to your school. They can let you know what help is available.

Grants for Individuals
If you need support beyond school-related costs, our Grants for Individuals programme offers financial help for families experiencing hardship.
*Chippenham Uniform Exchange
In addition to the School Social Fund, families can also access low-cost or free, good-quality school uniform through the Chippenham Uniform Exchange CIC.
We’re proud to have funded the set-up and towards the running costs of this organisation, which has been running since December 2022 and has helped hundreds of local families.
