Foodbox provides tailored weekly food bags to around 110 households across the community, addressing food poverty while reducing food waste. Each bag is adapted to meet the needs of the household – whether that includes babies, dietary restrictions, or family size – and is made up of supermarket surplus, food donations, and staple items.
The project is entirely volunteer-run (with around 55 local volunteers) and has zero overheads, thanks to St Peter’s Church offering free space for storage and sorting. Volunteers also carry out supermarket collections, food shopping, bag packing, and doorstep deliveries six days a week.
Recipients are referred through agencies like CAB, Christians Against Poverty, social workers, or via self-referral. In a time of high living costs, Foodbox fills a critical gap for those struggling to afford enough food despite receiving other support. This grant continues a partnership with CBLC to ensure the community’s most vulnerable are fed with dignity and care.
