This core funding, awarded in 2024–25, supported the appointment of a full-time Manager at Olive Branch Counselling in Chippenham. The manager will take on administrative responsibilities, streamlining operations and enabling counsellors and trustees to focus more fully on delivering vital mental health services. This change is expected to significantly reduce the time clients wait for support, improving access for those in urgent need.
Olive Branch provides low-cost, long-term counselling to individuals who might otherwise be unable to access consistent mental health support. Unlike many services, there is no fixed session limit – support continues until it is therapeutically appropriate to end. The addition of a dedicated manager also allowed the charity to set up a hardship fund, directly addressing financial barriers for clients, some of whom may only be able to afford £2.50 per session or less.
With strong community ties – including regular engagement with the local women’s refuge and outreach to underrepresented groups – the organisation plays a vital role in improving wellbeing and inclusion locally.
The manager’s role will also help gather anonymous client feedback and improve assessment processes, ensuring services evolve with the needs of the community.
This funding provides critical infrastructure to sustain and scale a trusted local service, ultimately promoting better mental health, increased confidence, and reduced inequality.
