Baydons Meadow
Baydons Meadow is a 4-acre meadow nestled on the outskirts of Chippenham, offering a vibrant green space enjoyed by the local community and wildlife alike. The site is owned by us at Chippenham Borough Lands Charity and maintained by a local volunteer group to support local biodiversity and provide a natural space for quiet reflection, just minutes from the town centre.

A Living Meadow
Managed as a traditional hay meadow, Baydons Meadow serves as a vital habitat for pollinators such as bees and butterflies, as well as birds and small mammals. The meadow’s seasonal blooms and natural beauty make it an ideal spot for connecting with nature and enjoying the changing seasons.
Over the years, conservation efforts have focused on increasing the numbers of wildflowers and invertebrates while gradually reducing coarse grasses and other vigorous plants that can dominate the habitat.
Community Conservation
The Baydons Meadow Wildlife Group carries out day-to-day conservation work on the meadow. This dedicated group of volunteers works to enhance the site through activities including planting native wildflowers, hedge laying, coppicing, and creating habitats to support local wildlife.
The wildlife group organises regular volunteer workdays and wildlife surveys, helping to monitor and maintain the ecological health of this special riverside location.
Visiting The Meadow
Baydons Meadow is open to the public with marked walking paths. Visitors are welcome to explore the pathways, enjoy the seasonal wildflower displays, and discover the variety of wildlife that calls this meadow home.
Dogs are welcome but must be kept on leads to protect the wildlife and wildflowers that make this meadow special.
